May Update

The Shoalhaven Rowing Club had our annual cleanup in the first week of May, with a great roll-up of master’s and junior members oiling rowlocks, cleaning out clogged gutters on the shed, sweeping, and generally striking terror into the cockroaches who had been mostly undisturbed behind the office furniture for the past year.

News of the month is the first ever selection of one of our members Peta Eddington for the Australian rowing team – details to follow next month!

A large team of Master’s rowers are weekending at Penrith for the two day State Masters Championchips on 16 and 17th May, with all three of the Ex-servos sponsored boats (the Singles Longreach, and Paringa, with the new superfast double scull the Weary Dunlop) in constant use racing this weekend. In addition, Master’s numbers have now increased to the point that we can now race a mixed crew in the club eight for the first time in some years as well as singles, doubles, and quad events.

Captains Report – April 2009

Captains Report – April 2009. The current regatta season now completed for our junior rowers and they take a break from rowing and refocus on their school studies. Through their attitude and competitiveness the Shoalhaven rowing club has become a feared competitor. It is also prudent at this time that I congratulate all our competitive junior rowers for their contribution in raising the profile of both the club and rowing within the Shoalhaven.

It is now that time of the year when our Masters Squad gets excited as the NSW State and National Masters Championships draw near.

I am also happy to announce that we have received notification that the grant for which we applied (NSW Disability Sports Assistance Program) has at long last been approved for $6000. This will enable us to begin implementing an adaptive rowing program in the near future.

It is also pleasing to see our newer members beginning to utilise the clubs facilities through out the week. I would ask all committee members that may be in the shed during these times, to assist any groups by providing any additional coaching tips or direction in and effort to improve their rowing.

Happy rowing

David Eddington
Club Captain
